New Orleans Bucket List

If you are visiting New Orleans for the first time or if this is your fifth time, then this is a great list for you. New Orleans is full of fun and exciting things to do. I promise you won’t have to look hard to find some great activities, good food, or refreshing drinks. The city has something for everyone to enjoy. So, let’s get on with the list.

  1. Stroll around the French Quarter
  2. Walk Bourbon Street with a drink in hand
  3. Above all, take a photo in front the oldest church in America, St. Louis Cathedral
  4. Watch performers in Jackson Square
  5. Shop for souvenirs at the French Market
  6. Especially eat benigets at Cafe du Monde
  7. Then do a little bar hopping in the evening
  8. Go to the Audubon Aquarium
  9. See the Katrina exhibits at the Presbytere
  10. Check out the museum exhibits inside the Cabildo
  11. Go see the New Orleans Jazz museum at the Old U.S. Mint
  12. Take a ferry ride to Algiers
  13. Do a horse drawn carriage ride history tour
  14. Have drinks at the Carousel Bar (yes, it rotates)
  15. You should also have a drink at Pirates Alley Bar
  16. Than take a stroll along the Mississippi River
  17. See if you can catch the ghost at Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop Bar
  18. Check out all the neat stuff inside the New Orleans Pharmacy Museum
  19. See the Historic New Orleans Collection
  20. See a show at the House of Blues New Orleans
  21. Of course do some window shopping on Royal Street
  22. Have coffee at French Truck Coffee House
  23. Without a doubt, you should have Breakfast at Ruby Slipper Cafe
  24. Have a Hurrican at Pat O’Briens
  25. Get a Hand Granade at Tropical Isle
  26. See the sinister Madame La Laurie Mansion, also take pictures
  27. Check out Madame John’s Legacy
  28. See what a real 1850 house looked like at the 1850 House
  29. Go inside the Gallier House
  30. Explore the 19th-Century Creole Mansion and Slave Quarters at the Hermann-Grimma House
  31. Visit the Museum of Death
  32. Ask questions inside the New Orleans Historic Voodoo Museum
  33. Head down to Preservation Hall
  34. Go to Marie Laveau’s House of Voodoo at least once
  35. Check out the Old Ursuline Convent
  36. Make sure you see where Marie Laveau’s house was
  37. Try to capture some spirits on camera at the Andrew Jackson Hotel
  38. Eat some delicious Bread Pudding at Olde NOLA Cookery
  39. Get a Blood Bag cocktail at New Orleans Vampire Cafe
  40. See a show at the Saenger Theater
  41. Experience Mardi Gras
  42. See the National WWII Museum
  43. Take a Creole or Cajun cooking class
  44. Certainly head over to Mardi Gras World if you can’t experience the real thing
  45. Ride the Mississippi on a Steamboat
  46. See a West Indies-style home at the Pitot House
  47. Check out the Ogden Museum of Southern Art
  48. Coupled with a game, concert, or event
  49. See the Southern Food & Beverage Museum
  50. Visit the Spanish Plaza
  51. Occasionally shop at the Riverwalk Outlet
  52. Also Wonder around the New Orleans Jazz National Historic Park
  53. Eat a Po-boy
  54. Check out the art at Degas House
  55. Walk Frenchman Street for some live street Jazz
  56. Occasionally, ride the St. Charles streetcar (the oldest running trolley line in the world)
  57. See all the beautiful mansions in the Garden District, while enjoying the atmosphire
  58. Head over to the Audubon Zoo
  59. Take out a boat on Lake Pontchartrain
  60. See the alligators on a Swamp Tour, surprisingly fascinating
  61. Picnic at Audubon Park
  62. Once in a while, read a book at Crescent Park
  63. Obviously eat some Jambalaya
  64. Tour the Whitney Plantation
  65. Go on a Cemetery Tour
  66. Ride bikes at the City Park whenever you can, endless views
  67. See the art at NOMA
  68. Stroll through the Besthoff Sculpture Garden straightaway
  69. Regardless, take a night & do a Ghost/Vampire/True Crime Tour.
  70. See Marie Laveau’s Tomb
  71. Take a History Tour
  72. Munch on a Food Tour
  73. Smell the roses at the New Orleans Botanical Gardens
  74. Go see the Canal Lighthouse
  75. Have a moment of silence at the Hurricane Katrina Memorial
  76. Also go see the Chalmette Battlefield & National Cemetery
  77. Hike around the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park & Preserve
  78. Eventually eat some good Gumbo
  79. Tour the Oak Alley Plantation
  80. Also take a tour through St. Louis Cemetery #1
  81. Walk through Lafayette Cemetery #1 (where many movies were filmed)
  82. Walk Magazine Street
  83. Try your luck at Harrah’s Casino, so you can say you’ve gambled
  84. Walk through Louis Armstrong Park
  85. Head over to Congo Square
  86. Get scared at The Mortuary Haunted House,

Honestly, there is so much more to do. If this is your first time going to New Orleans, I recommend doing a few tours and then relax and see what you can find. The City Park alone is full of fun things to do. I promise you will want to start planning that second trip once you get home.
