Utah : Best Times

The best time to travel to Utah depends on what kind of vacation you plan to have. If you are solely taking the weather into consideration, the best times to travel would be out of the peak seasons. Not only to avoid crowds but also high temps. The months of April, May, and June as well as the months of August, September, and October are the best months. As the temperatures are milder and nature is blooming or turning into some pretty shades of yellow, orange and red.

Spring

The weather in Utah at the start of spring can often be cold as the temps slowly increase during the months of March and April. Expect to see lots of rainfall in March, which helps with lower temperatures, but the volume should dissipate as spring moves in.

Other parts of the state that have snow resorts enjoy a steady stream of snowfall starting in November pushing through mid-April. Which means temperatures may be a little chilly during the first month or so of spring, but continue to warm up as the country heads towards summer months.

Summer in Utah

Due to the state’s arid, desert-like climate, you’re unlikely to experience much humidity considering it’s one of the driest states in the country. Which makes high temperatures manageable as long as you take precautions if you plan on being outside most of the time.

Still expect a few rain showers as we creep into summer, but the sunshine and moderate temperatures are much more common. July through August are the hottest months with temps climbing over 100 degrees. If you plan on hiking through some of the state’s national parks, it is advised that you thoroughly plan your hike before starting as the hot conditions combined with the sun’s UV rays can make spending long periods outside unenjoyable.

Fall

It is pretty warm at the start of September but temps usually lower pretty fast with the rainfall expected in the month of November. Snowfall starts in October but the storms don’t last long. Which the snow doesn’t normally stick to the ground till November. There are places closer to Arizona that do not experience any snowfall but still have Utah’s beautiful iconic fall colors.

Utah’s Winter Days

Heavy snowfall is expected in some areas of Utah. February and March are usually the months with the heaviest snowfall and January being the coldest. During the winter months, days are shorter so spending a lot of time outside becomes harder. As it is off-season, popular tourist destinations and national parks are quieter. So exploring the state might become more enjoyable if you don’t mind the cold.
